Lead-Free Brass for the USA

ECO BRASS® is used in commercial faucets, residential faucets, and many more brass and bronze applications and products throughout the USA.

Why are lead-free* brass plumbing fixtures an important choice today? Over the past few years, federal and state governments have enacted laws to limit people’s exposure to chemicals in potable water. An amendment to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), redefined “lead-free” as a maximum weighted lead content of 0.25% on the wetted surface of plumbing products. (SDWA) requires drinking water products sold or installed for use in public water systems, as well as plumbing in facilities, to meet a weighted average of not more than 0.25 percent lead. (The states of California (AB1953), Vermont (S152), Maryland and Louisiana have already instituted these requirements for products currently in the market.) More specifically, Section 1417 of the act makes it illegal to “introduce into commerce any pipe, or any pipe or plumbing fitting or fixture that is not lead free, except for a pipe that is used in manufacturing or industrial processing.” These new regulations will impact installations of brass and bronze pipes, fittings, and fixtures as they deliver potable (drinkable) water.

* This product complies with 0.25% weighted average lead content on wetted surfaces in accordance with Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) / Federal Public Law No. 111-380.
** Dezincification: Testing of ECO BRASS® was performed by an independent laboratory to the ISO-6509 testing protocol, and shows ZERO dezincification.
